Developing your story: When starting this story building adventure, just by being aware you will think of ideas. Set yourself the task to generate possibilities then relax into your daily schedule. One way to do this is to keep a diary of sorts. Perhaps just a list of topics and questions, like your own FAQ, or maybe a journal. Pay attention as you go about your day. Remember this is not easy, so delve deep. Write it all out and rehash it until it rings true to you.
Identify your why: what is your purpose in doing the work you do?
Something made you want to create. What was it at the beginning?
Tell me why is your purpose important. More than you need money.
If you couldn’t do what you do, where would you be? Walmart clerking? NOT!
Why do you continue to pursue your art? What drives you?
What do you want to tell the world about with your art about…..Why do you do what you do? Be specific. This is different than purpose.
What is your satisfaction? What do you get out of it?
What motivates you? Music, war, chocolate, environmental issue, what amps you up regularly!
What is important to you? travel, camaraderie, landscape, peace of mind, piece of your mind
What causes do you believe in? What is important to you.
How do you feel when expiring your product? Happy, sad, invigorated, giving confidence, refreshed, uniqueness. Capture the feelings in succinct words. Use the Thesaurus
How do you want others to feel when using/experiencing your product?
Is there a strong emotion associated with your product?
Describe your purpose in 1-2-3 sentences: the elevator speech
While writing your story constantly ask yourself this question : this is important because?
After defining your purpose ask yourself what influences you, what defines your work? color, music, form, negative space, environmental disasters. politics, your mother wants you to rule the world.....
